Historical patch guide

Deadlock Historical Guide — August 29, 2024

The August 29, 2024 update changes routes, pauses, progression, items and hero abilities. Review traversal, upgrade choices and ability timing.

Patch date: . Guide reviewed 2026-11-03. Historical changes can be superseded; use current definitions for a match today.

How this guide was prepared: AI-assisted analysis with a separate source-check pass against archived official notes. Practical decisions are reasoned suggestions, not player-tested results or measured win-rate evidence. A small hotfix receives a short guide rather than a reconstructed full build.

Original update sources

Recorded topics: Heroes, Items, Gameplay, Fixes, Interface. Dates refer to the update named in the notes; a mirrored post can be published later.

Recheck routes and progression

What changed: Wall jumps, climbable ropes, playable rooftops, and teleporter locations changed; a pair of teleporters was added to the outer lanes. Teleporters are closed for the first 10 minutes. Guardians no longer give 1 AP; AP is added at Soul levels 3,500, 5,200, 8,000, and 9,700. Separately, a flex slot moved from the set of enemy Base Guardians to all enemy Lane Guardians.

How to adapt: Explore altered routes in sandbox and check teleporter availability before relying on a route; verify progression in-game because the notes list Soul thresholds but do not state the AP amounts.

Coordinate pauses; note the upgrade lock

What changed: Each player may pause once per game, and the team may pause at most three times in total. Quick ability upgrades are prevented for two seconds after death.

How to adapt: Coordinate pauses around the team-wide cap; after dying, wait out the two-second quick-upgrade lock before attempting an upgrade.

Reassess weapon-item tradeoffs

What changed: Sharpshooter no longer provides bonus headshot damage; its weapon damage rose from 60% to 70%, and it now grants +175 Bullet Shield. High-Velocity Mag's bullet velocity bonus fell from +35% to +30%. New T3 item Headhunter requires High-Velocity Mag. Toxic Bullets' Heal Reduction increased from -55% to -65%, while bleed damage fell from 6% to 5%.

How to adapt: Test Sharpshooter with its revised weapon damage and shield rather than expecting the removed headshot bonus; weigh Toxic Bullets' stronger Heal Reduction against its lower bleed damage for your use case, without assuming either item is universally better.

Practice revised hero timings and controls

What changed: Bebop's hook targets enemies by default and allies with alt cast. Dynamo's gun damage fell from 15 to 13 and Singularity range from 9m to 8m. Grey Talon's Charged Shot damage and Immobilizing Trap root duration fell; the trap now slows by 50% for one second after the root, and its T2 changes from added root to added slow. Viscous received redesigned primary fire with a limited-range AOE alt fire, plus changes to Splatter, Puddle Punch, and Goo Ball. Seven's Storm Cloud scaling fell, its maximum-radius time dropped from six seconds to three, and the base ability now grants 20% Bullet Resistance.

How to adapt: Practice Bebop's target-mode input and retest affected ranges and timings before relying on old spacing; Viscous players can try both fire modes, while Seven players can check the faster Storm Cloud expansion in their usual situations.
