Deadlock crosshair setup: a practical visibility test

Choose a readable Deadlock crosshair with a repeatable practice test for contrast, target visibility and tracking, without relying on unverified pro codes.

By DeadlockStrat · Reviewed

Choose a crosshair you can see without losing the target beneath it. Change one setting at a time, test the same aiming task, and keep a record of the previous setup. This guide provides a testing method, not a verified import code or a claim that one player's settings are best.

Use the same aiming task for every comparison

Record or screenshot your current setup before editing it. In a practice session, choose a stationary target and repeat a short tracking task with the same hero, distance and mouse sensitivity. Keeping the task stable helps you notice a visibility difference instead of confusing it with a change in weapon behavior or sensitivity.

Then repeat while moving and against a busier background. Ask two separate questions: can you locate the crosshair immediately, and can you still see the target feature you want to aim at? A setting that looks clean on an empty wall can hide useful information during movement. These are comparison criteria, not measured accuracy gains.

Change one available control at a time

Use the customization controls available in your current client. When a color, size, gap, outline or center marker option is available, adjust just one and repeat the test. If you change several things together, you cannot tell which adjustment improved readability or which one caused a problem.

Prefer contrast with the scene and a target area you can still inspect. A thicker shape can be easier to locate but can cover more of a distant target; a smaller shape can expose more detail but be harder to find. Test that tradeoff on the hero and display you actually use rather than treating a screenshot as a universal prescription.

What a shared code does and does not establish

Before using somebody else's shared setup, establish which game version and import mechanism it targets. This page does not publish an untested code, a console command bundle or an unsupported claim that a setup belongs to a particular professional player. Keep your previous settings so you can compare and restore them.

A reticle cannot establish weapon spread, damage or whether a shot connected. Keep crosshair visibility testing separate from learning your hero's weapon and ability behavior. Revisit the setup when a display, resolution or visual update changes how clearly you can read it.

Evidence and review

Valve's August 15, 2024 notes establish crosshair customization, not every current control or a current import format. The steps below are an original practice method. Current code-sharing commands, exact menu labels and pro-player ownership have not been verified here.
