Deadlock counter items: choose the response your hero can use

Match healing, bullet damage, disables and mobility to a useful item without breaking your hero path.

By DeadlockStrat · Reviewed

Identify what is stopping you from contributing, choose one response you can apply reliably, and preserve the items that make your own build work. An enemy portrait suggests threats; it does not reveal their purchases or damage split.

Diagnose the problem before shopping

Separate damage from control. Dying during a disable can require a different response from losing an extended gunfight. A hero with weapon scaling can still deal spirit damage, so do not infer the incoming damage type from the colour of their items.

In the planner, add the opponents you actually face and mark the main threat or lane opponents. Those inputs weight the counter choices. Revisit them when another enemy takes over the match; an early lane response is not automatically your most useful late-game purchase.

Choose a response that fits your damage loop

Against healing, Healbane requires qualifying spirit damage, while Toxic Bullets needs sustained bullet contact. Decay provides a targeted active alternative. A counter you cannot apply during the important fight occupies inventory without solving the problem.

Against committed bullets, compare passive bullet defense with a timed Metal Skin or Return Fire window. Metal Skin does not cover melee, spirit or pure damage, and Return Fire is not immunity. When the threat is mixed, escaping or changing your position can matter more than adding another resistance item.

Check the timing and the exception

Debuff Reducer shortens eligible disables, but excludes the special parry stun. Dispel Magic cannot remove every debuff and cannot be used while stunned or asleep. Unstoppable must be activated before losing control. These are different jobs, not interchangeable upgrades.

Knockdown has a delay: plan your follow-up instead of treating it as an instant reaction stun. Slowing Hex restricts some movement patterns but does not remove ordinary stamina use. Check the target's actual escape before spending an active slot.

Protect the rest of the build

Counter options are alternatives, not a list to buy in full. Keep enough space and souls for your core damage or support loop. At most four owned items can have separate actives in the reviewed standard inventory.

If your inventory is already full, use Continue my build with the items you own, available souls and unlocked slots. Mark only genuinely replaceable items. The planner protects needed counters and path synergies and can recommend keeping the current build.

Evidence and review

These are tactical explanations of the Build 6839 reference, reviewed 1 November 2026. They are not match-statistical rankings. Item mechanics can change: the planner verifies current definitions separately and blocks automatic recommendations when the reviewed mechanics no longer match.
